What waste can be treated?

A wide range of physical materials and chemical substances have been tested and processed through the Organic Carbonisation System (OCS). This included any kind of organic matter, municipal solid waste, hospital solid waste, expired drugs, anything organic, even human waste and blood.

The OCS was able to process all materials, and with increased testing the process has been reduced to less than 10 minutes from start to finish.

The OCS cannot process common recyclables such as metal, glass and construction materials, thus will not undercut existing recycling industries.

Environmental benefits

Our common garbage items - How long do they take to decompose?

  • Paper - 2-4 weeks

  • Leaves/garden waste - 1-3 months

  • Orange peel - 3-6 months

  • Milk carton - 5 years

  • Cigarette butts - 10-12 years

  • Plastic bag - 10-20 years

  • Nappies - 450 years

  • Sanitary pads - 500-800 years

  • Plastic bottle - 400-500 years

  • Styrofoam - never?

All these items can be carbonised through the OCS process in less than 10 minutes, with an average mass reduction of 20:1.

HBC's Accelerated Carbonisation Technology (ACT) will revolutionise how we deal with our waste. Accelerated decomposition means far fewer emissions from decaying organic waste sitting in landfill, including methane. It also means less waste to landfill, which means less space at landfill.

That's why we say our technology can ACT on Waste, ACT on Emissions, ACT on Soil.
